November wrap up!

Whew! Made it! Ok, one more month down, one final month of 2018 to go. This means Christmas is upon us, and it's all downhill from here.. I have orders coming in pretty steady from the shop, I am sending my first order to the UK this weekend!

I'm such a fangirl of all things british haha So this was really exciting for me to see when I got the order notification.

I am getting a little ambitious and making linzer cookies this weekend. I hope they turn out as good as I think they should. I remember when I was little loving these cookies so much! I want my kids to love them too. Plus, whenever our friends come over for Dungeons and Drangons, they seem thoroughly impressed with my baking skills :D  My husband loves having me whip up cookies and such for him to take to work too. One time I hadn't made anything for about a week, and one of his coworkers asked if things were "ok with the Mrs?" since I wasn't baking that week! I thought that was adorable so I threw together some snickerdoodles the next work day.

I really am driven by others expectations too much probably. I love making other people happy. I'm sure it's part of my many afflictions, but I just love to see others happy. Even if it is just because of a cookie..how much easier can it be to please people than to make some cookies..I am pretty sure cookies, made properly, could save the world. No? Has anyone tried it yet? I didn't think so.

Today, I am finishing up the 2 bag orders from yesterday. I then plan on entering the swirling vortex of terror that is the garage (and my sewing room right now), to organize and  plan some fun projects.  I am planning to get the kids to sit down and make some Scandanavian star ornaments, and possibly some folded fabric ball ornaments. Those balls take about a million straight pins though. I only have glass ball top pins, I'll need to see what I have hidden away in all the nooks and crannys and containers and drawers...I'll probably fine a portal to world G493..who knows...stay tuned to find out!

I also need to figure out a better way to get photos in here. I have everything on my phone, like every other person in the world, but my app doesn't like to post to the blog. It's been a very frustrating realization. I'll get to that eventually. I have a bunch of cool project photos I want to post and show all of you (assuming there is more than just 1 person who ever reads this), but even if it is just 1 person, I would love to share these neat little projects with you too.

All month, I've been dreading Christmas, but now I am just accepting it for what it is, as I do every year, and I will roll with it and we will make many crafts and have lots of family fun! Yes, that is what we will do.

I hope any and all of you who may wander by, have a wonderful holiday season, whatever your holiday is or isn't <3

Why did I pick the holiday season to start this blog??

I am terrible at planning things. I am terrible with time management. I love the idea of doing so many things. I just cannot manage to ever get them done in real life.

I hate Pintrest. I think it's because it just feeds my need for ideas. More and more ideas of beautiful things I want to make or do. Then of course, the inevitable feeling of failure when I attempt and fail or just never get to actually attempt the project at all.

It can't really be because I am terrible at crafts/projects. I am a mom of 7 after all. I have a pretty full daily life with these guys. I homeschool 1 in High School, and 5 K-8 students. Plus, I've started really trying to work my shop. Which, honestly, has been amazing. I love when I get a sale, and I love creating the items in my shop. I just keep wanting to add more. I have amazing clients, and have received amazing reviews and the shop could actually grow into a substantial income for me. If I can keep it up and not lose focus.

I don't focus well, I think it's the depression. Holidays are really tough for us.. I know it'a a tough time for a lot of people. I also know there are plenty of people who have it way worse than I do. So I try to still teach the kids that while we don't have a lot of luxuries, we do have what we need, and that's more than some other people. My kids are really caring and kind little people. I am very thankful for that.

Over the last year my husband had a huge cut back in hours and even changed companies! We were doing pretty well for a while. Then in Sept. '17  his last job cut out almost all overtime, making it almost impossible to get any. So in April, he went to another company, which we really hope will pay off in the long run. They have already not held up with the hours they said they'd give him when he was hired, and the payscale is non existent there, with some operators making more than  line leads and supervisors. Also, something we are hoping will get worked out in the new year.

So, we are waiting for tax time to get some relief. I wonder if other people do that. Struggle all year and then only have any relief at tax time? It's weird. I have a huge list of things I need to get done at tax time.

I hope my shop will pick up and be more steady with sales, maybe I will even have to file taxes on it in January! How crazy would that be. I think that makes it an actual business then, right?

I hope all of you who find this little page, have a wonderful, happy, holiday season, whatever your holidays and traditions are. Even if you're like us and will just be hanging out at home with the family. Watching "A Christmas Story" on repeat, and playing DND or Trivial Pursuit, snacking on treats. I wish only good things for all of you and your families, now and throughout the new year.

First Trip to VS in over 16 years

Ok I am not a girly girl, and I am not a trendy girl by and stretch of the imagination. I am, however, a comfortable girl. I am also, a big girl. I have 7 babies and haven't seen the light side of 200 lbs in over 16 years. Now, after 7 babies, I am suddenly shrinking!

I was simply going to return some bras I had purchased for my daughter, and be done, and when we got there, they had the 10/$35 offer posted up so I was thought I could get some for my daughter. She is 13 but is very sensitive to elastics, waistbands/legbands and such, so there are a few styles that do not bother her.

Upon looking through some of the very chaotic assortment of lace, microfiber and cotton, I realized that the XL size actually looked close to the size I had at home. As soon as I even mentioned I think these look pretty big, do you think they'd cover my bum? to my Mr. he was very enthusiastic with "You should get some and see if you like them!" Now, I should mention, he's not a man pig, or one of those guys that loves lingerie..he is quite neutral to it honestly. So I knew he was being completely practical.

So, after about 30 minutes sorting and sifting through the abyss that was the panty display, I had gathered a pretty heavy pile of undies...just undies..so we get in line, and wait. The checkout lady was very friendly, I notice this wherever it happens, as I don't see it often. She is ringing everything up and gets to the last 3 pair and says, "These were all panties? Wow..that's a lot of panties! I'll have to get the medium bag...I don't think I've ever used the bigger bags for just panties!"

I was giggling to myself, thinking, it's just that I'm buying the biggest size you have so there's a lot more fabric bulk haha!!

The girls behind the counter were all so surprised, and shocked at the 25 pair haul. I was pretty excited myself..if I'm being completely honest. I haven't been to VS in years, and only purchase for my daughter online. I get home and realize I had 19 pair for myself, and 6 for my daughter. She had recently gotten a large order so she wasn't upset, plus I found her most favorite style that was discontinued online recently.

I found that I am very comfortable in the XL undies from the store I never imagined I'd be able to wear anything from. I was, and kind of still am in shock a little bit. But I definitely feel like I am making progress in my health and weight loss goals, and that is the best thing that I've ever learned by going into that very pink shop!

My favorite new project....

I thoroughly enjoy embroidery, and my daughter enjoys reading so after finding some cool but not fitting designs online, we decided she could just pick some of my fun printed vinyl for her book mark....of course!

I do tend to overthink things sometimes, it's true...

So we made this super simple super basic plain square template for the machine and stitched it up. She's happy, so I'm happy...here's how it looks!

It was super easy, even if you don't have an embroidery machine!! I can put up instructions if anyone is interested, leave a comment below!!

What were you searching for?

Welcome!! You have stumbled upon my little corner of the interwebs where I will be sharing fun projects, sales for my shop, pattern tutorials and just general stuff from my life.

I am a wife to 1 gingerbeard man  and mom and teacher to 7 little pifflesniffs.  We have 10 cats, that I actually allow in the house, there are about 8 more that linger in the neighborhood. I have snagged most of them and spayed/neutered them so hopefully that number doesn't increase. I'm sure you will be introduced to our brood as time goes on, the kids and the cats love to get in on the picture taking.  I also experience severe anxiety and sometimes fall into deep dark pits of depression. I do not have a huge circle of friends in real life, but I honestly don't think I have enough time in the day to entertain anymore people than I already have...so that's ok too.

I hope to share projects, happy little accidents of creating and a passion for creating with anyone who stops by. I also hope that if you become a reader here, when I post about depression/anxiety issues, you will become more aware of what some people may be experiencing, or if you also deal with these issues, maybe I will share something helpful for you to use to manage your own bouts more easily.

We are a pretty eccentric family...I think...I think we are eccentric by 1990 standards probably...maybe there are lots of families like ours today. I am just not aware of them. I do know we are definitely not the norm here in our area.

I am a seamstress at heart, and truly enjoy sewing and creating with fabric and fibers. I have a little Etsy shop, just like every other stay at home mom in the world. I am just a bit of a late bloomer. I only opened it about a year ago.

I hope to give everyone that stops by a little insight and inspiration to create something amazing!

Holidays are here again....uggh!

ugh! Here we are again, already a crappy holiday..Sophie ran away again on the 16th. This time she tried to say she saw a man coming in the ...
